John's Expertise
John is responsible for leading sustainable investment research and portfolio company engagement for the domestic equity team and sits on their investment committee. Additionally, he oversees the firm’s corporate philanthropy, community affairs and public policy functions. John serves part-time on the faculty at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy where he co-teaches a class on sustainable investing. Prior to joining Ariel, John served in the Obama White House as associate director of the President’s Jobs Council, a CEO-led advisory council focused on growing the clean energy economy, expanding workforce training and addressing other economic priorities. He also worked as a special assistant in the White House Office of Public Engagement and as an aide to the chairman of the council of economic advisers. Beyond Ariel, John serves on the board of directors of IES Abroad and Lincoln Park Zoo, as well as the investment committee of Leadership Greater Chicago. In 2022, John was honored as one of Crain’s Chicago 40 under 40 and in 2023, he was recognized as one of Crain’s Chicago Notable Leaders in Sustainability. John graduated with a BA in economics from Harvard College and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.
