Rupal Bhansali is chief investment officer and portfolio manager of Ariel’s international and global equity strategies. In this capacity, she oversees Ariel’s New York based global equities research team and manages multi-billion dollar portfolios for both institutional and retail clients. Rupal joined Ariel in 2011 after spending 10 years with MacKay Shields, where she was senior managing director, portfolio manager and head of international equities. Prior to that, she spent 5 years at Oppenheimer Capital, where she managed international and global equity portfolios and was promoted to co-head of international equities. Additionally, she has held various roles at other financial services firms since she began her career in 1989, including Soros Fund Management. In 2009, Forbes International Investment Report named her a “Global Guru”, and in 2015, Barron’s recognized her as a “Global Contrarian”. Rupal is a frequent guest on premier shows such as Bloomberg, CNBC Squawk Box and Fox Business News. She is also a sought-after speaker at prestigious industry conferences including the CFA Institute, Morningstar and Schwab. Fluent in several Indian languages including Hindi, Rupal earned a Bachelor of Commerce in accounting and finance, as well as a Master of Commerce in international finance and banking from the University of Mumbai. She later earned an MBA in finance from the University of Rochester, where she was a Rotary Foundation Scholar.
Chaim Schneider

Chaim focuses globally on consumer staples and financials as a research analyst. When he joined the firm in 2012, Chaim had more than a decade of research experience having previously worked for Deloitte LLP, MacKay Shields and Citigroup. As an active member in his community, he cofounded Nefesh Yehudi Academy, a unique after-school program in New Jersey. Chaim graduated magna cum laude from Yeshiva University in New York with a BS in accounting and information systems, and earned his MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University. He is also a CFA charterholder.

Micky focuses globally on the technology and health care sectors as a research analyst. He joined Ariel in 2011 after spending over 10 years as an equity research analyst at various investment firms, including Smith Jacobs and September Group Partners, where he focused on global absolute return strategies. Fluent in several Indian languages including Hindi, Micky earned a Bachelor of Commerce in accounting and finance from the University of Mumbai and an MBA in finance and investments from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College.
Karthic Arunachalam

Karthic Arunachalam, CFA®

Vice President, Research
Karthic focuses globally on the basic resources, industrials and consumer discretionary sectors. Prior to joining the firm in 2013, he served as a senior research associate for UBS India Services in Mumbai and Hyderabad. He was previously a senior analyst in the investment research division of Evalueserve in Gurgaon. Karthic is co-founder of the Right to Education movement of Child Rights and You in Chennai, India. Fluent in Tamil, he graduated from Anna University’s College of Engineering and earned his MBA from the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University. He is also a CFA charterholder.
Krishna Chintalapalli

Krishna focuses globally on the telecommunications and media sectors. When he joined Ariel in 2016, he had more than a decade of experience having worked for various firms, including Aricent Group, Communications Media Advisors, and most recently PwC Strategy&, where he advised Fortune 100 telecommunications and technology clients on strategic transformations and growth initiatives. Krishna earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology from West Bengal University of Technology, India and an MBA from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University.
Brent Merlis

Brent Merlis

Vice President, Head Trader
International Equities
With more than 15 years of international trading and operations experience, Brent is responsible for executing Ariel’s international and global strategies. He joined the firm in 2011 after spending more than 10 years at Deutsche Bank Asset Management, most recently as an assistant vice president of active equity trading. In this capacity, Brent implemented trades for both the domestic and international portfolios and collaborated with fund managers on best execution and limiting risk. Brent graduated from Syracuse University with a BS in political science with concentrations in finance, psychology and biology.
