Merrillyn is responsible for all aspects of the firm’s mutual fund business, including strategic planning, marketing, advertising, customer retention, distribution arrangements, shareholder servicing and Ariel’s digital presence. As chief marketing officer for the mutual funds, she spearheads the creation and execution of integrated marketing and advertising campaigns designed to generate mutual fund sales and promote Ariel’s patient investment philosophy. She is also in charge of all media and public relations for the firm. Merrillyn serves on the board of trustees for Ariel Investment Trust and is president of Ariel Distributors, LLC. Prior to joining Ariel in 1999, she served as a senior executive at the Acorn family of funds and Kemper Financial Services. Merrillyn is the former vice chairman of the Mutual Fund Education Alliance and currently serves on the Investment Company Institute’s Public Communications, Research and Small Funds Committees. Furthermore, she is a board member of the Harris Theater for Music and Dance where she serves as chair of the Finance and Investment Committee. Merrillyn earned a BBA in marketing from Andrews University and an MBA from Loyola University Chicago, where for over a decade, she was on the Council of Regents.

Khoa is responsible for the investor experience of Ariel's mutual fund shareholders. In this capacity, he manages the firm's investor services team, a group of licensed professionals dedicated to providing exceptional customer service, both at Ariel and our transfer agent, U.S. Bancorp. He also implements the firm's mutual fund digital marketing efforts, including e-communications, social media and online content management for Ariel's website. Khoa is an Ariel spokesperson for financial literacy, frequently speaking in the community about "Investing 101" to educate the public on the fundamentals of mutual fund investing. Prior to joining the firm in 2001, he worked at Goldman Sachs as an account analyst and in the marketing department at The University of Chicago's Booth School of Business. He is vice chairman of Heartland Health Outreach, a nonprofit organization providing affordable, high-quality health care for low-income, homeless, immigrant, and refugee populations throughout the Chicago region. Khoa graduated from the University of Chicago with a BA in biology.
