In addition to financial support, Ariel Community Academy depends heavily on its volunteers. From tutoring to painting to cooking lessons, the opportunities to get involved at the Academy are endless.

For example, Ariel Community Academy’s building at 46th Street and Greenwood Avenue is over 100 years old. To that end, there are many opportunities to get your hands dirty and help with the overall aesthetics of the school. Activities such as painting or gardening or other school improvements are always great opportunities for volunteers to help the school and get to know the students.

Beginning in January, Ariel Education Initiative will kick-off the Saturday Morning Teacher’s Corps, a group comprised of volunteers and AEI staff who come to the school for two hours every Saturday and help students improve their math and reading skills while preparing them for standardized tests.

Personal Ongoing Discover Sessions (PODS) are another great way to get involved with the Academy. These one-hour PODS take place every Friday afternoon at the Academy. With the help of outside volunteers, as well as parents and staff, students choose among the variety of sessions offered each week. The activities range from art to cooking to book clubs as well as more specialized courses such as “CEOs of tomorrow” and “Smart women finish first.”

There are also an unlimited number of ways to get involved with Ariel Community Academy on a more professional level. We at Ariel believe that students who are exposed to a professional atmosphere in which they are asked to engage in mature conversations, will be more comfortable and successful when they themselves become the professionals.
